Have you ever been headed somewhere in your car, then after a little while you realize that you do not recognize anything around you? This has happened to me so many times while I've been driving somewhere. The funny thing is some of the times I got lost, I actually had a pretty good idea of where the place was. There were also times where I was just plain lost, because it was unfamiliar territory. Most of the times that make me laugh now, are when I end up being lost because I quit using the directions. "I figure" I could find it getting this close. But no matter what the reason or excuse I had for being lost, I was still lost. I was not where I intended to be nor was supposed to be.

So many times in life we rarely intend to get lost.

I mean maybe you’re the exception, and you typically enjoy getting lost on purpose; so I am not saying that you people don’t exist. But in all reality, most of us find ourselves in a place where we didn’t exactly intend to end up. I know that there are some of you who generally were trying to follow directions and still got lost. I also know that the majority of us, myself included, who found ourselves in the wrong place, was because we weren’t paying attention. I mean, take a second to think about it. It is not like we were driving on the road one day and suddenly we were teleported somewhere with no idea where we are. I can say that hasn’t happened because, well, that sort of technology is not available nor do I think it even exists.

When we find ourselves in the wrong place it wasn’t because we were magically teleported, it was because we missed a turn or made the incorrect one.

Whether it was because we were trying to juggle ‘x’ number of things or were caught up in the moment. Understanding that you are lost is probably the most important part. I emphasize “part”.

You figuring out that you’re lost is great, but if you do nothing, then you’re still not in the place where God wants you. It takes more than a realization.

It is going to take you physically taking steps to turn around and look for the part you missed.

You might ask, “Nick, how am I supposed to figure out where I missed it? What directions are you talking about? What do you know?”

The answer is, I don’t really know anything. The only thing I can share and relate with you is I am constantly getting lost. I’m constantly trying ways on my own to try and navigate through life, and it usually causes way more trouble than needed. Having said all of that, when I ask God for help when I pray and spend time reading His word, that’s when I am reminded of the life that God has designed for me. But even when I am reminded by God’s love and word, there are still things I must do to get back on the right track.

The great thing about God is He loves us enough to let us make our own decisions. It also kind of stinks, because we wish at times He would’ve stopped us.

God has given us so many abilities and resources to help us get to the place that God intended us to be, which is following His call if you have a personal relationship with Him.

Psalms 25:4-5 “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by Your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You.”

Proverbs 6:22-23 “When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction is light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.”
