I just returned home from a movie. My wife and I went to see McFarland USA. The movie in a nutshell was based on a true story about a poor town in California called McFarland. This town resembled many places that we know of or have seen with our own two eyes. The people were poor, looked down upon and often counted out, yet they had a great sense of community and pride while maintaining a tight-knit community.

Sometimes I wish frybread was a vegetable.

I mean, in many ways it’s already the perfect food. I especially love that first bite. You know, when your teeth melt into that glorious fried dough and it’s got that perfect mix of crispy and chewy? *drool*

Of course, it’s not the best food in the world for your health. Don’t you wish just once your doctor would say, “I’m really concerned about your cholesterol and sugar levels...you really need to be eating more frybread!”

One of my favorite games to play in grade school was kickball. I think I liked it because it was like baseball, except kicking a big red ball was easier than hitting a small white one! But first we had to pick teams. Then, of course, the dreaded wait to see if I’d been picked. Usually even if I didn’t get picked first, I didn’t get picked last either. Good enough for me! I was just glad I’d been chosen at all.

Walking onto a bible college campus as a student for the first time made me feel, although elated, a bit insecure. Why? I mean, I knew God had wanted me to attend, that I was absolutely sure of, and I knew almost the entire student body from previous mission trips, so I wasn't worried about being an outsider so, why was I feeling insecure?
